IN ALL HONESTY THE #1 PROBLEM WITH TUMBLR: people don’t realize that there is going to be someone offended by EVERYTHING. you cannot stand up against everything that is offensive, and you have to understand that. you also have to understand that some people need a venting source, and that may be what their blog is for; getting rid of emotions or things that would bother or hurt them if left to fester without being said somewhere. it is my personal observation that some people do deal with problems they have, such as a bad past experience, body issues, bullying, loneliness, or loss, through jokes, and that helps them cope. i find it very sad when someone tries to make light of something they find hard to deal with (for example, person A saying they wish they could be thinner, because they have problems with body image, and rather than console person A, person B gets mad because they believe what person A was doing is body shaming, implying that you have to be thin to be attractive or happy with yourself, and thus making it harder for person A to deal with their problem) and people attack them for it. however, purposely being rude or trying to upset someone with jokes, knowing that it bothers them is not a coping mechanism, it’s antagonization, and really should not be defended in my personal opinion; trying to say that someone has the right to absolutely and knowingly make others uncomfortable or hurt because they may be offended by the first person asking them to stop is not logical, it’s just kind of mean.
in conclusion, you can’t expect people to change because you do not like how they act, and some people do joke to help deal with a problem, but what was going on in this instance was not a coping mechanism but antagonism, and should not be defended.

:c i was new to roleplaying… and all the things i put up had a reason behind them and a logical storyline…. but i’m an OC, so no one really bothers to try to figure out storyline behind what’s going on or the actually complex meaning behind the rather incoherent phrasing before badmouthing…..//
A TYPICAL DAY WITH MY FAMILY- LONG CAR RIDE
during the ride i started to talk excitedly about how much i’d acomplished today, and an interesting discovery i’d made that i was very proud of. my mom rolled her eyed and asked me how much longer i was going to talk. i fell asleep, and woke up to find my brother had put a note on my forehead that said ‘loser’ across it, and everyone else in the car was laughing at me. then they started making fun of me for falling asleep. now, there’s something about that i should mention; my mother made me stay up until 1am doing all the chores in the house that no one else wanted to do, knowing i would have to get up at 6am to go to summer school, because i’d lost school credits when my family moved the previous year. after that, i tried to drown them out with music… until my mother took my headphones because she wanted to listen to HER music, but didn’t bring any headphones. she could have brought her own, or borrowed my brother’s, but she chose to take mine. then my dad leaned his seat back, all the way into my lap to take a nap (after making fun of me for falling asleep).//

Yeah, see, THIS is a trigger. Something that prompts a horrible flashback that makes someone go into a literal panic attack. It is NOT something that makes you slightly uncomfortable, so can we all just stop tossing that word around like it’s nothing.
